What is Travel Soccer?
Travel soccer is a competitive soccer experience for boys and girls with the inclination to develop their soccer abilities and love for the game. Players who are ready to play competitive soccer, want to learn new skills and are ready to be trained by a professional, licensed coach will benefit from our program.
New players are welcome to attend a practice prior to tryouts to get comfortable with our environment. Please email
if you would like to do that.
Why Chicago Edge Soccer Club?
Chicago Edge is one of the largest youth travel soccer programs in Chicagoland. We pride ourselves on the experience and qualifications of our professional coaching staff, many of whom have been coaching professionally in the community for over a decade and hold the highest coaching qualification available (USSF A License).
Our club leadership have been in place since the formation of the program and are committed to staying up to date in terms of best practices in youth sports coaching and player development so we can provide the best program possible for our families.
We are also committed to serving the Oak Park/River Forest community and making the experience of growing up in this area as safe, fun and fulfilling as possible for all our families.
How does Travel soccer differ from Recreational Soccer?
Travel soccer is more competitive than ‘house’ or ‘recreational’ soccer. At the U9 to U18 age groups, unlike in recreational programs, teams are formed on an A, B, C and D format following a tryout. They are then placed in leagues organized by the Northern Illinois Soccer League (NISL) for the boys and the Illinois Women's Soccer League (IWSL) with teams formed from other travel programs based in other Chicagoland communities.
Does our U7 and U8 programs differ from the older age groups?
Yes. Our U7/U8 developmental program is designed to bridge the gap between recreational soccer (or for players just starting out) and travel soccer. It is a low-key, fun focused skill development program led by our professional coaching staff to prepare our young players for travel soccer. They do not play in regular travel leagues but instead play small-sided festivals against other similar groups from other local travel programs.

How will my son or daughter be picked for a team?
Chicago Edge runs open tryouts in May for all age groups (U9 – U19; Boys & Girls) to form teams for the following soccer year (fall/winter/spring). All players are evaluated during these tryouts by the team coaches and Directors of Coaching. Selected players are placed on appropriate teams by the coaching staff based on merit alone with no consideration given to friends, car pools, community lived in or previous teams.
Open tryouts mean that every player, whether returning or new to travel soccer, is evaluated based on the same criteria. However, current players will be evaluated on an ongoing basis throughout the season, the tryouts are used to compare and contrast new and returning players in real time.
Can my son/daughter play other sports as well as travel soccer?
Yes! In fact, it is encouraged at the younger age groups. Our coaches understand that family schedules can be hectic so as long as absences are being communicated to our coaches then we are flexible with your family schedule.
Can my son/daughter play up?
In general, players must tryout in their age group. When developmentally appropriate, players may play up an age group to remain challenged. However, it is quite rare and is done on a case-by-case basis at the discretion of the Directors of Coaching. Please contact the Directors of Coaching to discuss the options available to you.
How do I determine the right age group for my child?
Chicago Edge follows the birth year mandate as directed by U.S. Club Soccer.

What is a travel soccer season?
Our travel season 2020/21 encompasses 3 distinct seasons: fall, winter and spring for our U9 to U18 teams. Our U7 and U8 development programs are just fall and spring. However, there are a number of optional extra programs players can take part in throughout the year.
Fall: Mid August to early November
Winter: Mid November to spring break (late March)
Spring: Early April to Early June
In summer we run summer camp programs with the PDOP and RFPD that all Edge and non Edge players are welcome to participate in.
Do we have a Financial Assistance program?
YES! We strive to make youth travel soccer affordable for any family that wishes to participate.
